Science Fair!

Science Fair!

Today we visited Nottingham University for the science fair!

We learnt lots about different types of science and participated in a wide range of experiments.

Tell me one thing you have learnt today. What experiments did you participate in? Can you remember any names of chemicals and what they do?

Shadow stick enquiry!

Shadow stick enquiry!

Yesterday we carried out an enquiry to see how the movement of the sun changes throughout the day. We asked ourselves: Is there a relationship between the time of day and the size of a shadow?

Throughout the day we measured a show stick to answer our enquiry question.

What did we find out? Why did the show change size? What questions do we have now?

Brain Science

Brain Science

In class 5 learning leopards have been wearing pedometers all week in order to take part in an experiment with Nottingham University.

We also took part in a brain science workshop this week, where we learnt all about the senses.

What did you learn? What makes a great investigation? What scientific skills have you been learning this week?

Whipple’s Week of Wonder!

Whipple’s Week of Wonder!

This week is British Science Week!

We have been enjoying ‘Whipple’s Week of Wonder’ with lots of exciting science happening around school!

Can you think of any questions about the world around us? Make sure your questions start with ‘What if..’.  Can you think of an answer to your question?

For example: What if there Earth didn’t rotate? What if the sun exploded?

World Book Day!

World Book Day!
Today is world book day and we attempted the ‘Big Book Off Challenge’ in year 5! We talked about our favourite books and listened to some famous authors, who gave us tips on how to develop an exciting book character! We discussed our favourite type of book character and also explained why we enjoyed them so much!
What is your favourite type of book character? Why?
Can you remember how to develop a character for your own story?

Extreme weather!

Extreme weather!

This week we have been learning about tornadoes… We have researched key information and have tried to find out how they are formed. We watched a clip from the film Twister and then began to write a diary entry from one of the characters perspectives.

Tell me what you have found out about tornadoes so far. How were they formed? What effect do they have?

Can you name any famous tornadoes? Where are they most common?
